Blood-Brain Barrier Within Transplanted Brain Tissue? J. M. Rosenstein (1) reported the absence to suggest of a blood-brain barrier (BBB) to blooddiffer morpl borne tracer and endogenous proteins withdothelia. TI in fetal rat parietal cortex transplanted to the example, v fourth cerebral ventricle or cerebral cortex of bodies) ider adult rats. The author concluded that transendothelia a plants of the fetal central nervous system process or (CNS) manifest a permanent barrier dysThe endocy function and, therefore, are not integrated at the lumin physiologically within the host CNS. The tissue is prc author suggested that blood-bome comquester trac pounds normally excluded from the brain by by endocytc the BBB would have direct access to CNS cellular trar transplants and may affect neuronal funcprobe mok tion. If this report is correct, absence of a blood-born BBB in brain grafts in conjunction with a thor in graf host immune response for tissue rejection transendoth could complicate the potential clinical appliilar extravas cation of human CNS transplants in the parenchyma treatment of a broad range of neurological travenously degenerative disorders, an example ofwhich a consequen is Parkinson's disease (2); furthermore, such by an elevat

Candesartan Attenuates Ischemic Brain Edema and Protects the Blood–Brain Barrier Integrity from Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury in Rats

Background: Angiotensin II (Ang II) has an important role on cerebral microcirculation however, its direct roles in terms of ischemic brain edema need to be clarified. This study evaluated the role of central Ang II by using candesartan, as an AT1 receptor blocker, in the brain edema formation and blood-brain barrier (BBB) disruption caused by ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injuries in rat. Methods...

Therapeutic effects of ellagic acid on memory, hippocampus electrophysiology deficits, and elevated TNF-α level in brain due to experimental traumatic brain injury

Objective(s): Cognitive defects such as learning and memory impairment are amongst the most repetitious sequelae after sever and moderate traumatic brain injury (TBI). It was suggested that ellagic acid (EA), an innate phenol product, display neuroprotective properties against oxidative and inflammatory damages after brain injury. The object of the current study was therapeutic properties of EA...

P 136: The Role of Blood Brain Barrier in Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an inflammatory disorder, in which neurons become demyelinated. To date, its etiology has remained unknown. Nevertheless, certain features are inspected to provoke MS. For instance, improper function of immune cells is widely believed to be the basis of such disorder. In this concept, MS is stated as an autoimmune disease, which was asserted by major of studies, as CD...

Relationship between dietary virgin Olive oil on brain Cholesterol, Cholesteryl ester and Triglyceride levels and Blood Brain Barrier (BBB) permeability in a rat stroke model

Introduction: Recent studies suggest that dietary virgin olive oil (VOO) reduces hypoxia-re oxygenation injury in rat brain. We have attempted to determine the effect of dietary virgin olive oil on brain lipidomics and its relationship with brain edema in a rat stroke model. Methods: Five groups, each consisting of 6 male Wistar rats, were studied. The first and second groups (control and s...
